Fluid
entering the turbine flowmeters first passes through an inlet flow straightened
which reduces its turbulent flow pattern. It then passes through the meter
body, causing the turbine rotor to rotate at a speed proportional to fluid
velocity. As each turbine blade passes through the magnetic field generated by
the meter’s magnetic pickup, an alternating current voltage pulse is generated.
The pulses provide an output frequency that is proportional to volumetric flow.
One
turbine flowmeter features a 316 stainless steel housing and rotor support, and
abrasion-resistant tungsten carbide rotor shaft and journal bearings. These materials
help the meter to maintain accuracy and mechanical integrity when measuring
harsh and abrasive fluids.
The
turbine flowmeter can be coupled with an electronic flow monitor to provide
multiple local read and system integration options. The monitor presents flow
rates and totals simultaneously via an LCD display and/or transmitted to a user
interface via Modbus RTU, 4 to 20mA analog outputs or totalizing pulse output.
